    Types of Firewalls

    1. Proxy firewall

    This type of firewall sits between the internal network and external network and filters malicious data.

    2. Stateful inspection firewall

    It allows or blocks network traffic based on state, port and protocol. It monitors all activity from opening of connection until its closed. It filters traffic based on admin defined rules.

    3. Unified threat management (UTM) firewall

    A UTM Firewall generally integrates the capabilities of stateful inspection firewall, IPS and antivirus.

    UTM’s are simple and easy to use.

    4. Next-generation firewall (NGFW)

    NGFW’s have capabilities of UTM firewalls and are:

    • Application aware and can block risky applications
    • Capable of blocking Malware and application-layer attacks

    5. Threat-focused NGFW

    These firewalls include all features of a traditional NGFW and also provide advanced threat detection and remediation.
